Chupacabra

Chupacabra, in the Spanish Language, literally translates as “goat sucker”. The mythical creature is prevalent in the Hispanic areas of the Americas. The Chupacabra phenomenon is a relatively recent one. The first reported sighting of a Chupacabra occurred in Puerto Rico in 1994, although the creature has reportedly been sighted many times since throughout Latin America.

The Chupacabra could possibly be a modern counterpart to the Vampire of older legends. The animals claimed to be killed by Chupacabra appear to have been drained of blood through puncture wounds in their necks. This peculiar method of killing seems to be identical to that of purported vampire methods.

There is no definitive description of what the Chupacabra looks like as many reported sighting differ significantly. The common descriptors seem to be that Chupacabra is a creature that walks on 2 legs, but his size has ranged anywhere from 3-6 feet height. He has been reported to fly with wings, others claim he walks similar to a man, and yet others still claim that he hops around.

The origins of Chupacabra vary greatly as well. With there being so little known about the creature, there are nearly as many theories as to its existence as there are people who have read about it. Some theories are relatively mild, such as the creature may be a relative of the panther or some species unyet discovered. Other theories can be really wild, from failed CIA experiment to alien creatures crash landed on Earth.

Whatever theory you may believe, if you believe in Chupacabra at all, the idea of a bloodsucking creature is not a new one. The Chupacabra could be called the American vampire, it definitely has some similarities in its tactics. The legend of Chupacabra should continue to grow, as its development is so recent, it may grow to be an even more fearsome legend with time.
