The Red Beans, The Legend of the Love Beans

Author: Aldouspi  |  Category: Asian Legends  |  Comments (0)  |  Add Comment

More than 4600 years ago, violent conflicts occurred between the Han Chinese agricultural and non-Han Chinese herders living in the north. The war raged for years. One day, one of the herders was pressed to go into battle. With great reluctance, the man left his wife, a lovely woman, and his children.

With hope and longing for his return, the wife spent every day looking for the return of her husband. Each dawn and dusk, leaning on a large tree on a high mountain, she would watch the horizon where she had seen him vanish, only to face another day of disappointment. But war is cruel, and her husband never returned.

Because of her deep love, the woman wept, under the big tree, almost every moment while she was keeping her vigil. As time passed, her tears turned to blood and as these tears dropped to the ground they hardened and became red beans. The red beans sprouted and eventually a forest of big trees grew at the site where the wife had expressed her devotion and love. The legend of this love story grew and the people started calling the fruit of this tree – love beans.

love bean necklace

Red beans have a a strong foundation of meaning in the Chinese culture. A red bean is very large, often a diameter of about 9 millimeters. They are very hard and often come in a heart shape. These love beans are similar in color to that of blood and can be stored for a very long time without rotting, or fading in color.

Red beans symbolize love and fidelity. Today, in countries such as China and Taiwan, men often give red beans to their lovers to show their commitment to the relationship. For a woman, thus, red beans symbolizes happiness. Brides wear jewelry made from red beans on the wrist or neck, so that she and her husband will live a happy life together. It is also a cultural belief, that if married couples put six red beans underneath each of their pillows, their love will remain throughout eternity.

Today, fashionable women the world over are proud to display red bean jewelry. Lovers exchange the love beans to show their love and commitment to each other.

Still the legend of the red, love beans is fairly obscure. So if you want to please your lover or spouse in an unexpected way, give her or him, red bean jewelry. And explain the legend of the love beans…

The Kyuubi – The Japanese Nine-Tailed Fox Demon

Author: Aldouspi  |  Category: Asian Legends  |  Comments (0)  |  Add Comment

Few things in the anime by Naruto, can charge the atmosphere with emotion and respect as much as when Kyuubi appears on the screen. This version of the Japanese mythical creature, the Kitsune, is one of the most mysterious and interesting characters in the anime. The Kyuubi, as I am sure most fans of Naruto know, is the nine-tailed fox demon once ravaged Konoha and was sealed by the Fourth Hokage inside the body of Uzumaki Naruto, the series’ main character. Naruto, in all His goodness is often plagued by the Kyuubi’s efforts to tempt him with brutal power. And when Naruto is unable to contain his excitement, he becomes consumed by Kyuubi, losing his sanity and control of a cholera outbreak in pure and unrestricted. Naruto is 360, from the joker kind that we all love a runaway monster, if you pass a certain point, can no longer distinguish friend from foe.

Origins of the Kyuubi

But Where is the origin of the Kyuubi? Kishimoto-sensei certainly did not just pull this Kyuubi legend of his hat. In fact the Kyuubi is based on the Japanese mythological creature called the Kitsune. Translated, that means fox Kitsune. “The fox, as seen in Japanese folklore, is a cunning, intelligent, but mischievous. In fact, the Kitsune is often called a” cheater “and, Incidentally, this is how Naruto is shown at the beginning of history. The kitsune can transform into a human being, a skill that one learns when it reaches a certain age, usually 100. However, most commonly transforms into a beautiful woman, seductive, much like ‘Naruko’ Naruto’s female form when it does its Oiroke no Jutsu.

The kitsune can have several tails, ranging from one to nine. The number of tails kitsune indicated their age, wisdom and strength. In the anime, Naruto, when succumbs to the temptation of the Kyuubi power, your chakra leaks out and forms like ‘tails’. The number of lines arising from Naruto, the stronger it becomes and more you lose control of himself. So far, both the manga and in Naruto Shippuden, we just showed up to four tails Naruto. At that point, is completely lost self control and begin to attack everyone – friend or foe. If not contained, or if the Kyuubi Naruto is saved grows all nine tails of the Kyuubi, he will, in a sense, dies, and the Kyuubi will be released to wreak havoc in the world.

Nine Tails

Thus, the Kyubi, a fox nine tails, is a creature in his prime. In fact, in the anime, the Kyuubi is said to be the strongest of the nine Bijuu scattered in five countries. A stroke of her powerful queue can cause whole villages to crumble and tidal waves to form. In fact it is so powerful that it is considered a ‘natural disaster’ by locals and often is believed to be a force that comes when human beings get too bad and therefore must be “purged”. The reason why Kishimoto chose the Kyuubi to be the strongest Bijuu is probably based on the Japanese legend of the 9 Bijuu, five of which are elemental Bijuu, one is Gaara’s Shukaku, the Bijuu of Wind. And Of course, another is the Kyuubi, the Bijuu of Fire, the strongest of all the animals tail. So that’s all. We hope this gives you an idea where it comes from the Kyuubi, well as some applications where the Kyuubi is being implemented within the Naruto world.

Henry Hsieh has multiple interests and he enjoys talking about them. As a fan of anime, he likes to watch Naruto, discuss in Naruto forums, and listen to Naruto MP3 at tailedfox.com the best Naruto site with the newest Naruto Shippuden Episodes out first.

Yeti Hair Found

Author: Shasta  |  Category: Asian Legends  |  Comments (0)  |  Add Comment

Researchers in China have recently come across a group of locals who claim to have genuine yeti hair in their possession. Upon further investigation of the hairs, Chinese researchers claim the hair is definitely not that of any known local animals.

The hairs have been sent off for DNA testing which will determine the origin of said hairs. Researchers believe there is a possibility the hairs may belong to an extremely rare bear.

The yeti is believed to be very similar to the North American bigfoot or sasquatch. Sightings are as common in the mountainous regions of the Himalayas as they are in the Pacific Northwest.

Bones of ’small-bodied humans’ found in Micronesian cave

Author: Shasta  |  Category: Asian Legends  |  Comments (0)  |  Add Comment

Another population of small humans has been reported, this time in caves in Micronesia.

Modern adult bones left, Palau small human bones center and right.

Lee Berger, Steven Churchill, Bonita De Klerk and Rhonda Quinn, a team of paleontologists and anthropologists from South Africa and the United States document a group of “small-bodied humans” found in the ” in limestone caves in the rock islands of Palau, Micronesia.” The report, in a recent edition of the open access journal, PLoS ONE (2008 3:3) argues that these small people may “represent a congenitally abnormal individual drawn from a small-bodied island population of Homo Sapiens.” The term for this condition is Insular Dwarfism described in Foster’s Rule. Different radio carbon samples at the site date between 3000 and 4500 calendar years before the present, with the 3000 year old dates being judged the most reliable.

The authors argue, “Based on the evidence from Palau, we [Berger et al] hypothesize that reduction in the size of the face and chin, large dental size and other features noted here may in some cases be correlates of extreme body size reduction in H. sapiens.”

Unlike the 2004 find of the Flores dwarf human population (dated from 95,000 to 13,000 years ago), known as Homo floresienses and nicknamed hobbits, researchers do not consider this population to be a separate hominid population. They also suggest that this more recent population casts some doubt on H. floresienses being a separate species, and that,

“These features when seen in Flores may be best explained as correlates of small body size in an island adaptation, regardless of taxonomic affinity…[This] Palauan sample supports at least the possibility that the Flores hominins are simply an island adapted population of H. sapiens, perhaps with some individuals expressing congenital abnormalities.”

In support of this, Berger et al also argued that although the dwarf humans appeared to have many features in commons with Homo sapiens, there seems to be many features that are not usually associated with Homo sapiens.

Tsunami exposes ancient ruins in India

Author: Shasta  |  Category: Asian Legends  |  Comments (0)  |  Add Comment

Friday, March 18, 2005 Probably one of the first good things to come out of the 2004 Tsunami in Asia, ancient ruins were discovered in India. Fishermen along the shores report seeing the ruins along the shoreline near Mahabalipuram when the waters receded just prior to the arrival of the tsunami. Mahabalipuram is a port city of South India, dating back to the 7th century, around 60 km south from the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

The fishermen reported a complex consisting of ancient temples. Some mention seeing at least 20 distinct temples, and hundreds of refrigerator-sized blocks. The walls were covered with barnacles, coral and mud. Local folklore tells of an ancient port in the area.

On the shore, three structures consisting of elaborate carvings in the shape of animals were uncovered. The structures appear to have been covered in sand, which had been wiped away by the force of the tsunami. The structures appear to belong to a port city built in the 7th century, said T. Satyamurthy, a senior archaeologist with the Archaeological Survey of India. The sculptures, representing an elephant, a lion and a flying horse, were commonly used during the Pallava dynasty, which ran from the 4th to the 9th century, archeologists say.

The temples along the shores of Mahabalipuram are already a famous feature of the city, and have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Legend has it that the city was home to seven pagodas. Underwater excavations of the area by the archaeological society, run by the Indian government and navy divers, began on Thursday.
