The legend of the island of Atlantis is an ancient Greek legend of a powerful island state that sank into the ocean in a single day. The city of Atlantis is said to rest beneath the Atlantic Ocean.

There are theories that the ancient Atlantians were visitors from another star system. Others suggest that they were more technologically advanced than we are today, but that their science went out of control and destroyed the nation continent. Whichever theory is true, one thing is for certain, the story of Atlantis has captured the imaginations of people around the world. The Atlantis name has become commonplace in many respects. Many island resorts or aquatic themed places use the name, there is a science fiction television series based upon the idea, and people still debate the truth behind the legend.
