Loch Ness Monster
Located in Scotland, Loch Ness is a long narrow deep lake in a chain of lakes (or lochs) spanning across the countryside. The first modern sighting of a creature inhabiting the lake occurred in the 1930’s, however sightings of lake monsters in the region date back as far as the 7th century.
With an average depth of 200 yards or so, the lake could very well be home to large fish or other creatures. At over 20 miles in length, the lake offers a large volume of water in which an animal could grow and prosper. Some scientist, however, dispute the ability of the lake to provide nourishment for a creature of the suggested size of the Loch Ness Monster. And no one want to face a hungry monster…

Common accounts of the monster describe a creature similar to a plesiosaur, a carnivorous aquatic reptile that lived during the Mesozoic Era. So “Nessy” is reported to be a creature with a long skinny neck attached to a larger, bulbous body. It has a small head and rough skin, and is sometimes seen with flippers or feet.
Many of the eyewitness sightings have been deemed hoaxes either by the hoaxers themselves or after expert scrutiny. There are many photographic accounts as well as massive scientific efforts using sonar to try and determine the reality behind the legend. Does the Loch Ness Monster really exist. One can only hope…
