The legend of Robin Hood has become a popular tale. The story has been repeated throughout history and has also been made into many Hollywood movies, some recent and some classic. Robin is believed to be based on an actual person.

The legend of Robin Hood, as commonly known, is about a group of outlaws living in the forest and robbing from the rich to give to the poor. The tale takes place in Sherwood Forest around Nottinghamshire, England. Robin was generally perceived as a commoner in early tales, but later was said to be a Nobleman who was removed from his place in society, forced into hiding in the forest which lead to his robbing from the rich.

The legend dates back to the 15th century when we have our first known reference to Robin Hood, though the written accounts place the events as occurring during earlier centuries. This would allow for the legendary status as the story was orally passed on for centuries, before being written down.

Robin and his men have also gained legendary attributes. Robin is portrayed to have extraordinary skills with a bow and arrow. His men, are also portrayed as having great fighting abilities, much better than those of the knights and soldiers of the nobility.

There are many parts to the story: His love of Maid Marianne, his fight with Little John and the legendary Archery Contest set up to trap the noble outlaw…
