Romulus and Remus
The story of Romulus and Remus is the story of the founding of Rome. Ancient Romans believed that Romulus was the namesake of the city of Rome. Rome, being one of the greatest Classical civilizations, deserves no less than an amazing myth to sanctify its origins. There may have been a historical figure named Romulus that influenced the early civilization, but the tales of his life have been shrouded in mystery.
The early Roman historian’s Livy and Plutarch both portray the story as the factual history of Rome’s founding. Many modern historians believe the story to hold absolutely no truth and doubt even the existence of a Romulus figure. However, recent archeological discoveries give some validity to the possibility.

The legend of Romulus and Remus states that the two were twins, born to the god Mars and a priestess. Mars did not wish to allow the boys to live, in case they might try to take his power. To prevent them from growing up, they were cast into the river. This ploy did not work as the boys were discovered by a mother wolf on the riverbank. The wolf raised the boys and nursed them until they grew. Other accounts of the story replace the wolf with a woman whose name translates as wolf.
As they grew and became powerful, a dispute broke out between the two as to which one deserved to found Rome. Romulus won the dispute and killed Remus, becoming the founder of the Roman city-state.
In the universe of the fictional Star Trek – Romulus and Remus are the names given to the worlds settled by a splinter group of Vulcans who did not want to follow the logical precepts of Surak.
