Darkness And Creation Myths – A Shamanistic Look

In the creation myths of the world, there is always a time of darkness before the birth of the human race and, within this darkness, when a undifferentiated unity exists where everything is God and all is one. There are no humans, only aspects of God, waiting to be born.

And then something happens. God becomes lonely and longs for a partner, a lover, or just become curious about his powers and his potential as a God. In order to know himself and what he might be able to, God has to do two things: He must separate himself into, at least, one other form, so can look at it himself and knows what it means to be God. And, two, so he can see himself within the darkness, God must create light.

God said 'Let there be light' and there was light … Genesis I

Then he realized, I indeed, I am this creation, for I have poured it forth from myself… Upanishads.

And so it is that God's enlightenment comes from separation and brings the arrival of opposing parties in conflict with each other. The partitioning continues, and the universal consciousness is further divided into many – a chaos of fragments, an unknown world…

This notion of separation and the destiny of man within it are included within mythologies worldwide. There are many stories which tell of the distance and the ambiguity of God (the first original consciousness) from man (what God has become).

The Greeks, for example, humans considered humans playthings of the gods, who were numerous and often at war with themselves. For these gods, humanity was negligible and of little concern.

In Christian mythology, we have a God that is not available to us,… So instead we are provided with angels, archangels, and even fallen angels to keep us company.

“We come to God in bits, dismembered. We don’t know if the bits can be made to fit in the way they used to”, writes Michael Begg, an Irish philosopher. His prayer is a simple one: “We ask God to re-member us”. But for this, we must first remind ourselves of that distant past, by going back to the primordial darkness and experience a world without forms.

Reconnection
Man has been searching for a reconnection with the infinite and to make sense life of its every since that separation. Most often, if one is serious, this search will take place in darkness – of a physical kind rather than the metaphysical “dark night of the soul”, as Carl Jung defined it.

Recognizing the primary union that was present in that first dark, sages and mystics have always used the darkness as a vehicle to return to a state of happiness and understanding. This return to peace and tranquility allows them to break with the concerns and anxieties of life on this earth, with all of its social-identified rules and the conditioning place on one from the outside world. They seek in some way to reconnect with an undifferentiated consciousness where all is one, again.

In the Shinto tradition of Japan, for example, there is a discipline known as Komori – Isolation – undertaken in the darkness of a cave, a temple, shrine, or even a room in one’s home, which is specially prepared and purified, so it can bring the gift of power and illumination. Japanese texts make frequent mention of going to such places like these. Especially to shacks without windows, known as the Komoro, which can be found built on several sacred mountains where the ascetics performed their dark retreats.

The practice of spending long periods time inside of caves can also be found in the remote peninsula of Land's End in Cornwall, where Iron Age communities felt obliged to construct underground passages, known as fogou, a word that translates from the Cornish as' underground chamber and can be derived from ogo, which means cave.

These fogou typically consisted of a long corridor with walls constructed in horizontal courses of granite rough stones, about 40-50 feet long, six feet tall and five to six feet wide These were built deliberately on a curve, and one walked under a restrictive door, so that the initiate must bow to the darkness at the entrance.

On the other side of the world, the Dagara tribe of Burkina Faso (a landlocked country in West Africa), darkness is also sacred. Moreover, in common with other ancient tribes, it is forbidden even to illuminate the darkness, as light is known to scare the spirits away.

Somewhere in all of us, the darkness has the answers to our being and our destiny – and all we need do is close our eyes to reconnect with our source.

SACRED EXPERIENCE OF THE DARKNESS
To get an idea of what the dark may have for you, you may want to try the following exercises. These are taken from my book Ross Heaven’s Darkness Visible: Awakening Spiritual Light Through Darkness Meditation, which explores the use of darkness worldwide as a means of spiritual enrichment.

Close your eyes …
The first step in darkness work is to experience the dark, but actively, instead of passively. We are all consumers of darkness every time we blink or lay down to sleep, after all, but most of us think of these things as interruptions to our normal life of doing things in the world – if we think of them at all.

To become a traveler into darkness, spend some time with your eyes closed, as if in meditation, and just be aware of what thoughts, images, and other information start to surface, all of which you might never have noticed before because your attention was so firmly on the world ‘out there.’

Starting small is recommended – no more than 15 minutes at a time – but you can build up to longer periods of an hour or more. Then, when you are comfortable with the darkness, try moving, dancing, or eating in the dark. How do these taken-for-granted activities feel now you are using other senses to guide you?

Playing God …
The religious texts of the world tell us that there was a time before the separation, when we all knew the mind of God, because we were part of that mind. With eyes closed, allow an image or a feeling of what this God-like primitive state would have been, when we were part of this energy consciousness and undifferentiated. Feel how it is to be at One with this soul-community. Drift with him for a while.

At some point, you decided to separate from this energy so you could be born and experience life as your self, one form divided from the whole. What was your purpose for doing so? What did you come here to explore? When you consider your life now, have you fulfilled this purpose or, if not, what is there still to do?

Forgiving God …
In my healing practice, clients often seek help because of some great schism or division in their life. They feel alienated, lost, or apart from someone, who is physically present like a parent or a partner, but there is still a sense of great existential separation: the client feels alone.

That sentiment is valid. Since we fell into disgrace and were “cast out of Eden” we are all alone. The first person to forgive, then, is God – or, if preferred, the essence of life itself – for having separated you in this way.

Close your eyes and let an image emerge of whatever you consider God or Life Itself to be, and your relationship to it. Talk to this being, expressing honestly your grief and rage and fear, as well as your joy; whatever you need to say about the situation you find yourself in and the abandonment you feel.

And then switch places. Become a God or life itself and look back at yourself. From this perspective, respond to your own grievances. Let God explain why things are the way they are. Continue this dialogue, change places when necessary to reach an understanding and arrangements for the future.

When you are ready to forgive, step back from this image and see yourself and God facing each other as separate beings, then and allow them to walk toward one another so that these two beings merge and become an image of a new God-Self. Breathe in the power of this union and see it as a light that fills your heart.

Open your eyes. How does the world look now?

Darkness Visible: personal myths

Bon shamans Tibetans believe that we are a year old at birth. Our first year of life is spent in our conception and gestation in the womb, a time when we are conscious, aware, and learn about the world through the experiences of our parents (especially mothers, in resident whose energy field). His feelings and sensations are made in the egg and sperm and then the vital force of the blood of the mother. As a result, all born with certain predispositions, biases, assumptions about the world, psychosomatic behaviors, and inclinations. There is a 'state of mind to our lives and, now, a life script in place that every time you come to live.

The same idea can be found in other traditions as well. In one of Castaneda's books, for example, the shaman Don Juan reveals a Toltec formula to calculate the amount of personal power or energy at our disposal, which is very similar to Tibetan belief. "The energy level of all beings depends on three fundamental factors," says: "The amount of energy with which they were conceived, how energy has been used since birth, and how it is being used today.

Nor is this just a spiritual or esoteric idea. Modern day Pediatricians have also found that emotional disorders in newborns and their sleeping and eating patterns, to accurately reflect the mother, as if they have learned from it in the belly of the way it should "be" in the world as soon as born. Even the nutrients carried by the blood of mother feeding the growth of children are loaded with information. If the mother chooses to eat well during pregnancy or not, you're stressed or relaxed, avoid alcohol or continues to drink, they all say something without telling the child about the emotional nature of the world that approaches the world view and their parents.

Subtleties as they become our lives, at least partially predetermined for us because we already channeled in certain directions and the vastness of possibilities that makes us more narrow, as a consequence.

Actual results and physical may result from a narrowing of focus. The French doctor, Patrick Obissier, which found, for example, that it is possible to trace the origin of diseases in any patient back to their parents, and their unresolved psychic distress, which becomes part memory cell patients is inherited from them. Diabetes, which creates excess sugar in the blood has skyrocketed in patients with feelings of helplessness, inherited parent. To compensate for this lack of power, the body will produce more sugar to fuel muscles. For a cure to be effective for psychological distress beneath the physical symptoms had first to solve or the propensity to diabetes will progress to the next generation, like a tale told by a mother his son.

In order to be healthy, whole, and so, therefore, our challenge is to get rid of the scripts of life we have received.

Life stories and myths
The challenge is real and difficult. In Celtic mythology, was known as Geis (pronounced 'Gesh') and is variously represented as a curse, a taboo or a sacred mission. Often in these mythological stories, geasa (the plural of GEIS) become a warrior against a parent, spouse, or other significant person, and force him to do certain things or keep others could have sought. The search for the hero emerges from his struggle to find a way around these circumstances. Sometimes it is successful – though not always as obvious or immediate – and these Celtic stories offer us warnings and advice on how to make the epic journey for us themselves.

In the legend of the warrior Oisin, for example, is classified in geis by a lover, when carried Tir na n-Og, the Land of Eternal Youth by Niamh, the daughter of the king of the fairies.

Under the spell of her abductor, Oisin marries her, but after three years beginning to awaken from their charm and lose your father and homeland. Fearful that can leave your Oisin, Niamh allowed to visit her father, but only on condition that he does not leave your horse to step on earth. Oisin promises not thereby accepting Geis. Almost inevitably, however, a disaster when he falls from his horse by accident. Three hundred years pass in an instant and Oisin, now old and dresses in rags, he becomes blind and miserable, never to see his real family again.

As for this story as a metaphor for the human condition, and monitoring their findings to the causes first, we see that the problem of Oisin not fall down, but his acceptance of the terms of Niamh in the first place. Because once we accept limitations and restrictions, we act on them, sometimes totally accept and live our lives as others want to, sometimes, as in the case of Oisin, rebel against them as "accidental" behaviors that express a desire to be free. Thus, any geis or thoughtless promise becomes, not just words, but the energy of others to live that infects us their fears and dramas instead of pursuing our own truths.

So how can we overcome our limitations and free of this string useless energy that we have become a part of?

THE PASSAGE OF CONSCIOUSNESS
"To escape from prison first need to know you are in a prison, "wrote Gurdjieff. Self-awareness, then, is the first step toward freedom. We have to make conscious of the myths we've bought ourselves as these accessories can be released.

The shamanic traditions call this recap: the re – examine key life events and tragedies around them so we can see the stories have become part and begin to let them go. A contemporary example of the process might look like this:

The pure essence of Autonomy
Imagine in your mind's eye the moment before birth, a time of pure spirit, Free social definitions and no stories about you did not yet exist. Who were they then? What was your face before birth, such as teachers Zen ask?

This spirit made the decision to be born. He had a purpose, a mission to accomplish in this election. What happened to you?

Knowing who you are and what their purpose was the soul (and still is) and then comparing this with the way your life is now reveals where he is giving power and attachments that have been made in its history.

The trip Conception
Since Castaneda explains that a third of our energy comes conception and gestation in the womb. The pure energy that makes us the color of our parents and theirs before them. This is emotional or spiritual DNA, and begins to give way to us at the cellular level, which could lead to issues identified by Obissier, which are physical and psychological.

The next step in the process of recapitulation, then, is to imagine back in the womb, asking questions like "Why this father / Mother? ',' What do they have to teach me in line with the purpose of my soul? "" What were my pre-natal and birth as experiences and how they still affect me? "" What have I forgotten me now that I knew, then?

People who do these scans find that this apparently simple process can produce profound realizations about them (I think) are. One participant in my shop, 43-year-old woman named Lucy, had a difficult childhood and felt afraid, powerless and uncomfortable around others as a result of their early experiences. She recounts her journey back to the design as "Amazing. I have gained a sense of love that have never felt or witnessed between my parents. There was a passion of love that has only shown in my life such as anger and disagreement between them. "

This new information is what, in its most basic level, that the usual history is changing.

"I feel a greater understanding of my parents, my creation, and why he chose me," he continued. "I understand more fully what it fears, feelings and dreams of my parents for me before my birth and can appreciate the stress of my birth and childhood are given. For the first time I experienced the feeling of being created out of pure love and perfection. "

Like Don Snyder says in his book, time and memory, no matter what our lives, we can all "hope that we're all in this world, preceded by a love story." If we see that our parents – and ourselves – Then something in our lives can change and that we find "the way back through the stars and memory.

The development of the Story
As soon as our stories are born, life begins to spin louder around us. The process usually begins with throwaway comments ( "It so like your father, "" going to be a doctor / professor the England team when I grow up "), all of which are instructions to a young mind knows no different and refers to parents as all-knowing God.

When our parents tell us they will be doctors, or "little devils", or play with England, if they are serious or not, creates a tension in our mind that to find the resolution, must result in a loss: either reject the parent wants or reject part of us. In any case, history remains crucial, because part of us remains the definition of who we are in terms of their words. If doctors it does, then, is it really our choice? And if we do, we have failed our gods? Therefore, as parents we must be careful with our words, and as consumers of the word, we must be cautious about what we give to our attention.

Everyone has a story like this and can enlighten write. If your life were a book, for example, what would be – a comedy, tragedy, adventure? Who are the main characters? And where did they go from here?

Each author is, of course, free to change their story at any time and as Ram Dass says, "What, after all, is the story personal, if not a dream? ".

How to rewrite history to make a future power?

Cutting Ties
In his explorations so far, you may be aware of the energy links to others or for events that are more aligned to your 'story' their soul purpose true and that therefore no use. Through the breathing you can begin to remove the energy contained in attachments to this dream.

This part of process is to imagine back in each of these events and the breath to absorb the energy they are spending on exhale while the bonds have been formed with the drama of that moment. Learn from the experience, too, that all these are situations where you have a tendency to relinquish power, because, knowing this, you can ensure they do not do the same in the future.

Sorry
The final step is to forgive, understand that these events are also the stories and, more positive, revealing the things we need to work through being true to our souls. Forgiveness, then, is another way to liberate our myth, so it can return to spiritual fulfillment.

Thus, in Celtic history listed above, Niamh Oisin fault for not geis that he carried for, in his old age became, symbolically, a man, standing on its own feet, on their own ground and free from the Land of Eternal Youth, where power is exercised in an irresponsible manner and promises extracted by threats.

ALL IN THE MIND?
One question that arises in all the work that has to do with life scripts and the process used to discover them: "Is it all just my imagination?

This question is a chimera, because it does not matter if the events he saw "really" happened exactly as happened in viewing or not, because what they believe is real truth you will anyway. Our whole life is in this sense, an act of faith, and where place our belief these are the results we obtain.

If I think it was an unwanted child, for example, as Lucy did everything in my life conspires with the creation of that story and I grow fearful of others and waiting to be rejected, and so will create the same result. If I remember correctly – or choose to believe – however, that was the love of my family, I become more loving and kind in my life and change my fate now because I remember how the love, not just the pain of my youth.

That said, they do tend to be significant correlation between what we feel instinctively to be true and what happened. Howard, through this process, saw his mother attempted to abort him. Unbeknownst to her mother or the doctor at the time, the attempt failed, and in his mind Howard was born and heard the reaction of surprise the surgeon expects the delivery of a dead child: "It's alive!" These were the first words he heard.

Shortly after his recapitulation, Howard decided to talk to his mother about it. After the initial shock was clear he had to get something from his chest and was frank and open about the circumstances of his birth. He confirmed that it was an abortion and that the words "It's Alive!" were made by surgeons.

"This surprising revelation led to a reconciliation with my beautiful mother, "Howard continued." She told me what happened, about his intentions, and my father. This explains a lot to me because in a visceral level I never trusted my mother, and now know why: unconsciously, he had learned that he had tried kill me.

"Of this also has a clear vision of what makes me as I am and how I realized that the comment of 'It's Alive 'has influenced my life as my response to life has always been "I will prove I am alive!" Sometimes I wonder at the words of the surgeon, without however, and how different my life would have been if the first words he heard were 'it', along with the surprise of my life, but "he is a beautiful baby "or something similar. I had bought in the history of 'it' and disappointment must have been."

We know much more than we think and we deal with the fears, hopes, and life experiences of our parents in our emotional DNA. These become our stories, to we decided to take back our lives. Wrap is the first step toward freedom.
